Mike
Brubacher - founder of BESS
BESS is acronym for the Brubacher Edge
Sharpness Scale – an international standard of quantifying sharpness.
The
exquisite edge we put on customers' blades wouldn’t be possible without
Mike’s sharpness testers.
Mike lives in Phoenix, Arizona USA. We were
first to adopt BESS in Australia, and are proud to call Mike Brubacher
our friend.

Knife
Grinders at the Sydney Knife Show
Knifemakers
were bringing their newly made knives asking us to set edge on them.
Visitors were taking to us the knives they bought to test sharpness. A few from
the public even called home for their wives to bring knives for
us to sharpen; others left the exhibition only to run home and return bringing more knives for
sharpening and testing.
By the end of the show we ran out of one reel of test media in the
PT50, so over 200 sharpness measurements were taken.
On quite a
few occasions when we adults were all busy with the customers, my
10-year old son did sharpness tests, good fun.
