My mentality is immune to vanity, megalomania and delusions of grandeur.
When you send me a thankyou letter or make a recognition comment online, they hit some numb spot in my brain, and I don't know how to reply simply because my brain cogs give a slippage and no words come up.
I highly appreciate your kind references for what we do in the knife sharpening lore. When you see the quotation of yours coming up here please consider this as my personal thank you.
My apologies that not everyone's thankyou is posted here, as with the amount of correspondence I have with sharpeners from all corners of the world it would be physically difficult for me.
Thank you, Gentlemen! Cheers, Vadim

My hat is off to these researchers for their fine work. The research I did 20 years ago is primitive by comparison. Long live the new experts. Steve Bottorff, USA - author of the famous Sharpening Made Easy book
Hi Vadim, I wanted to get in touch briefly to report how the knife was at work.
I implemented your advice. I was able to cut 22 half pigs. Madness!
Kevin, boning butcher, Germany
My blades now sharper than a razor. I am very pleased and fully attribute the result to the methodology I have learned from you.
Fantastic to get to know your experiences and knowledge. You are a Predecessor Vadim. Kent, Sweden
You are the God of sharpening. I know that I am a real beginner, I watch all ur videos Vadim. After using ur Software i get real sharp knives, cut myselve 3 times now :)
Hanns, Germany
Wow….shaving sharp in such a short time. Hats off to you Vadim, without doubt the biggest leap in improvement, speed and control in the 9 or so years I have been making knives…..Just wish other could be converted rather than using slow and unreliable methods. Peter, knifemaker, UK
You are my role model. A few weeks ago, I introduced you to Korean on my Blog. The title is "[Great knife sharpening expert] Knife Grinders in Australia" https://glesser.blog.me/221429829147 Thank you Vadim. SHARPCO sharpening company, Korea
I have a feeling your FVB will make knife sharpening a lot of fun... Thanks for inventing and producing it - very caring and professional.
Gary, USA
Vadim,
I just wanted to thank you for sharing so much of your knowledge with me, and the community. I have just finished assembling my paper wheel set up, and am waiting for it to "dry" before I try it out tomorrow.
You are a wealth of knowledge, and I thank you so much for all of it.
With Heartfelt Thanks, Sam, USA
Hi Vadim,
Very impressed with your Pin Pivot Collar, and worth the cost as it has increased the accuracy and decreased the time spent on recurve knives, very smooth to use. Kind regards
Al deDenus, New Zealand
I'm sorry I haven't been writing to you nearly as much as I've been reading everything you write. I'm very grateful for your presence on this forum! I think I may have picked up on things you've mentioned in passing. Mark Reich, knifemaker, USA
I finished the whole thread and I found it mind blowing, the amount of information and the quality of it is amazing, I have a ton to learn but I'm enjoying the process big time. Luis, USA
Such precision, you are the best of the best, ''top gun'' Kenny
Nice work m8 that's unreal. Alan, Australia
Your posting today on finishing the edge, along with the SEM photos, is excellent. I am crediting everything to you as the research you are doing is invaluable, and I am trying to ensure this side of our wonderful planet gets visibility to the work you've done. Rich, USA
Your photos (nice job, by the way, of both the sharpening and the photos) strike me as quality sharpening well beyond the typical home sharpening or busy farmers market sharpening. To be worthwhile for the sharpener, this quality workmanship would require a very sophisticated customer who appreciated it.
With innovations like your set up app and modified knife jigs, I can see these advancements gradually filter into everyday sharpening. We are all enriched by your pioneering work.
I really believe that although some of your sharpening techniques may presently be reserved for high end work, just like advances in auto racing, some or all of them may filter down into more general use. Ken, Tormek forum moderator, USA
Thank you very much for the book!
I want you to know that your art is very noble, indeed, in pursuit of the perfect edge and burr removal, I have abandoned my evil ways of drinking and chasing wild women.
Thank you once again for the wonderful time I have had exploring your videos and website. Mike, USA
Also, thanks for the deburring book. Love the sharpening myths section and the rest of the information is simply awesome. Read every word. Alex, Australia
Again thank you for your book. I will read, re read, and study it. Dave, USA
Thank you Vadim for sharing your very deep knowledge. Hansosanchez
That's cool as mate. Well done. Hell of a sharpening job. Nathan, Australia
This is so satisfying. And your website has a great amount of knowledge and scientific data to read. Majin, Germany
Congratulations! I've been following you for a few months, and I have to say, you ve been a pleasant discovery. Alias Di Giovanni
Hi absolutely brilliant. Terry
Thanks for all your support and help. It has been very good to find someone like you who has a passion, inspirational ideas and committed to find good solutions for knife sharpening. Michael, professional sharpener, Denmark
The PT50A and the FVB together with the outstanding information from you make my sharpening hobby very enjoyable and I have had a huge step forward in knowledge and skills. Thank you very much! Harry, Norway
I have always wanted to but never have I visited Australia, but if I ever do I would make an effort to come by, just to shake your hand. Through these emails I can see that you are a nice, honest guy that I am happy to do business with. Roy, Hawaii
Another thanks for posting all your experiments for us to read. I was wondering if you would give me permission to use some of your graphed results, primarily to show my knife clients and also possibly putting it on my website. Warrick, knifemaker, Australia
Fantastic results, your persistence in pushing the envelope with sharpness levels is inspiration for me to try and do better myself. Chris, Australia
Dear V, I thank you for your initiative and time to not only attempt to master this craft but to also note and share this knowledge with the rest of the world. I am grateful for our friendship and look forward to our continued partnership in the years to come. Lawrence, knifemaker, Australia
Thanks for sharing this sharpness chart. Nice to see a thoughtful compilation of overall a sharp edge can cut/separate correlate to apex width (in microns). Also glad it was done with attempt of high regard for technical and scientific principles. Knifemaker, USA
Wow, Thank you for bringing this set of information, might I call it new tools, to my attention! Scott, USA
This is one of the continued excellent contributions you make to sharpening. I wish I'd known many years ago the things I've learned from you. Kind regards and great respect Rich, USA
Vadim, Scientific analysis and real world utility are often missing in sharpening lore and literature. I think the sharpening world owes you a debt of gratitude for applying the former to the latter and publishing the results in an instructional form. Gord, USA
Seems that the right equipment with the right method produces a quality product - I know that sounds a little simplistic and really doesn’t do justice to the work that Vadim and many others have done getting this art/science to this level. Amazing! Scott, USA
Man-o-man, you guys are really on the job. You are a credit to society! a big thumbs UP. Grizz, USA
¡Wow! Once again, I am amazed. Great work; I can hardly wait for future developments... Ken, USA
Just great, I can only say "congratulations" for that great job. Fernando, Colombia
Thank you, Vadim. The stuff is very good, but as always I learned a lot of useful things for myself. Fedor, Russia
Wow, nice thinking. Great idea. Zeev, professional sharpener and Tormek distributor in Israel
Amazing post! Your knife sharpening technique seems to have reached the apex.
You are a standard of Tormek knife sharpening, so I think it's a great luck to live in the same age as you. Youngbin, Korea
What a simple, yet effective way to set an angle. I find it pretty cool to input a set of numbers, setting the Univeral Support almost feels like a leap of faith, yet when checked... it's perfect. Curtis Womack, not the author of the book Sharpening Knives on the Tormek, USA
I have watched your videos and like how professional and meticulous you are. Thankyou again. Jeff, USA
I have thoroughly enjoyed reading everything you have posted, both on your website, and on the various forums I am on. I thank you so much for all the work you have shared openly on the internet. Sam, Canada
I place this order with great pleasure as I have throughly enjoyed your YouTube videos. Your web site has also been of very great assistance for one just beginning the sharpening journey. Thank you very much. Michael, USA
Your approach to sharpening is the best of what I’ve seen around. I am preparing to start a knife sharpening operation. Thank you for your effort putting so much valuable information on your website. It has the best advice ever for a sharpening business. Peter, Astralia
The system you recommended of using the T8 to establish the edge then using paper wheels with 5 mircon and 0.5 micron diamond honing compound is working beautifully! I just finished 4 Damascus hunting knives that the owner raved about. The polish and edge were incredible. John, USA
Vadim, you are a true perfectionist. I love it. David, USA
I am 78 years old & I like knives. I have many different knives & I like to keep them young.
I would like to thank you for sending me FVB, Pivot Collar, the software for angle setting & off course your book, which I read & learned from. Carl, USA
Hey Vadim The FVB arrived today. Very happy and the software is amazing and so accurate!
Thanks so much for the deburring book. I certainly have a lot to learn. It's almost to daunting...
Finally sharpened that Japanese knife. Thanks again for all your help.
I'm so excited about it I had to tell someone !! Al, New Zealand
Your research reveals the challenge to producing enduring sharpness is not so much grinding a bevel to a good apex... Rather, the more difficult challenge is to employ techniques proven to
- abrade those burrs (whatever form they may have taken); and,
- most delicately expose the underlying ground apex.
With this understanding, and with your advice, I was finally able to make my 1st knife sharp. David, USA
Hi Vadim,
I really appreciate your work and all the progress you made me do through your study. My knowledge of the Sharpening has made a great leap. I wish you the best.
Cheers,
Alias, Italy
I have watched your videos many times and respect your professional scientific approach to sharpening. I would like to bring your level of sharpening to Northwest Florida.
V/R Jeffrey, USA
Vadim, very cool that you've put your knowledge and practices into a book so more can benefit.
Rick, USA
Thank you very much for all of the information that you shared via YouTube, your website and the Tormek forum.
I love the system you've created! I cloned your knife setting block this week and was able to use it for the first time this evening. It is (along with your entire system) fantastic!! It really cut my learning curve down considerably and your system simplifies things considerably. I am absolutely happy to support your work! You take all the guess work and tinkering out of this and now I concentrate on how I am applying pressure. I've been studying your videos and tutorials and can't wait to teach my son to start sharpening as well.
Dustin, USA
Genial, me quede sin palabras.
Fernando, Spain
Hi Vadim, u are my Hero :) Understand only half and have to watch this more often to understand all, but i will.
I get many contacts here in Germany to my Videos and lots of questions about ur Software and the Picot collar. I tell them all to contact u. Greetings to Aussieland.
Hanns, Germany
I'm intrigued! Been using paper wheel sharpening for over twenty years. You have overcome the angle issue that was the Achilles heel of this system
Flash Gordon, USA
What an outstanding reply. It wasn't a brush-off like many companies do these days when a customer has a question. It was thoughtful, informative, and precise. I carefully studied everything you said, and practice what I can.
The result? I just finished sharpening and honing a knife exactly per your video, then set up the FVB per the applet and hone it briefly on the leather wheel. That is the sharpest and nicest-looking edge I've ever made! Really nice. Makes me happy. Cuts so nicely!
Thanks for hanging in there with me - you really care that others succeed at obtaining outstanding results - a rare quality these days.
Gary, USA
Your book is a breath of fresh air in knife sharpening, the facts without the b/s.
Lawrence, Australia
Thanks so much Vadim and keep up the good work. Your videos are my inspiration for turning this into a business venture. I've watched them all and love seeing new posts.
Gabe, USA
Thanking you immensely for your knowledge shared on your Website and YouTube channel. I have gained a lot from your book and appreciate your efforts in testing for the sharpening industry.
Taylor, USA
Vadim, I love sharpening knives on my Tormek because of your helpful instruction and software.
Scott, USA
Hey Vadim,
Once again I have to thank you for turning a fair knife sharpener into a good sharpener. I have been using your two applets and the FVB for a number of months and have gotten some BESS edges in the high 60s. As you can tell I am more than satisfied.
Mike S., USA
Thank you for the information. I do very often view your website and I congratulate the company for your innovation technics and will revert tout you.
Bussac, Reunion Island
Your posts on the forum and videous are brilliant, Thank you.
Steve, UK
Just finished my Kindle edition of the book. A very informative and enjoyable read... Thanks
Curt, USA
I’ve read your book front to back at least 10 times and am still fine tuning my technique.
Al, New Zealand
I appreciate the time you put into answering these questions and my customers appreciate it as well. I think most of them think their knives were sharp out of the box and when they cut their first tomato after I sharpen them they are amazed. Thank you.
John, USA
Thank you very much fo your wonderful tools that will make my work easer.
David, Australia
Hello, Vadim. I have been enjoying watching your sharpening videos on YouTube; very informative. I recently ordered your book on Amazon and it has been enlightening, to say the least.
Cesar, Australia
Having joined the ranks of the FVB converts I must say I think the edges of the knives I have sharpened following the process outlined in Vadim's book are definitely sharper than my free hand honing efforts.
My wife has asked me to wear long sleeved shirts when we go out as there is a lot of hair missing on my arms and it looks like I have a condition.
John, USA
I want to thank you for the book Knife Deburring, it has been a great help to me in understanding how to deal with the burr. I was frustrated with knives not holding their edge very long.
Eric, USA
I have recently purchased your FVB which I am happy with and I was excited to receive a copy of your Knife Deburr book. I've always understood there was some science in deburring blades having working in meat works most of my life but you guys have taken it to the next level and put it into the print, thanks very much for sharing. I am constantly referring back to this book trying to make it second nature in my sharpening.
Mat, Australia
I have been making knives for only a short while, but I want to ensure that I have a superior edge on all my knives and I intend to start a knife sharpening business on the side. I wanted to take a moment to say how impressive your website is and how much I have learned from it as well as your posts. Thanks for all you do and your help to educate those of us who are interested in knife sharpening.
Michael, Canada
I have been following you for a long time and I confess an admirer of your work. I expect to improve my sharpening technique after read the book. I´ll try to read and understand all of it (my English is not good).
Again, thank you very much for everything. You are very kind.
Attentively, Josu, Spain
Hi Vadim;
I would just like to say, thank you, for all the information and knowledge you give to the Tormek Community Forum. I know you have a business to run and this must take time from it. Once again well done and thank you.
Carl, USA
Hey Vadim,
I wanted to reach out because I enjoyed your book on burr removal and minimization. I found the book was very eye opening, and did a great job filling in the holes and gaps in my (and others) research and testing. Your book was extremely helpful, for you were answering questions I had on phenomena (burr root) that nobody seemed to be aware about. A lot of what you found in your research also aligned up with what other sharpeners found when experimenting with hair whittling edges that would last weeks to months.
Ben, USA
This was a most interesting read and I think definitely myth busting. John, USA
I appreciate how much I am learning about this and am only a typical user of cutting blades and just getting into the sharpening science. My knives are getting sharper and sharper now thanks to the info here and your book and the extra equipment that I purchased to get better. Dale, USA
I appreciate all of your efforts & videos as new owner of a Tormek T8, thank you. William, USA
For many years I have been intrigued with the factors which help make a very educated and skilled person. This has been mostly, but not entirely, part of my desire for self improvement.
Vadim (Knife Grinders) combines the best of a highly educated mind with a craftsman's desire to improve the craft. He is continually growing and quite commendably, he has unselfishly shared his growth with like-minded persons.
Vadim of Knife Grinders is the rising tide which makes all knives sharper. Ken, USA - Tormek forum moderator
Vadim is a talented sharpener, producing the sharpest knife I have ever felt or owned. Dean, Australia
Edges having a tooth is also one of the myths that is debunked in Vadim's book on deburring. I have found that knives sharpened and properly deburred using Vadim's technique glide through tomatoes with almost no force and probably more importantly retain their edge longer. I have an Italian chef as a customer and she cuts more tomatoes than most. She has told me that in all her years on the line she has never had knives that are so sharp and that stay so sharp using her smooth steel. This can be achieved using the standard wheel and leather hone as Vadim detailed in this thread on the Tormek forum
Having seen the results of proper deburring I will continue to use these practices on all the knives I sharpen.
John, USA
Hi Vadim, I am in awe of your techniques!
The FVB and software are giving me amazing results , I'm in the early stages of starting a small scale local sharpening business and am getting great word of mouth business on the knives already . Thank You! Luke, UK
I've just got my knives back from Knife Grinders, Sydney - sharpest they've ever been and looking well ...
sharp?? Vadim is a proper, honourable gentleman, the likes of which I've not come across in a very, VERY long time.
I'm really happy, so thanks again for the recommendation.
Yael, Australia
I bought your book on knife deburring and wanted to say how pleased I am with the information and science contained within. I've learned so much and it has changed the way I think about edges and deburring, etc. I do a lot of knives for processors so much of the research and data was so very relevant! Thank you for all the work and effort it took to share this knowledge with all of us.
Steve, USA
Hi Vadim,
Your book is helping me better understand knife sharpening and the importance of the deburring step. I pick up something new every time I reread it.
Bill, USA
Good afternoon Vadim,
I will never be able to repay you for all the wealth of information you have shared with me. I would need several lifetimes to accumulate it myself. Thank you so much.
Alan, USA
Thank you Vadim. You are a Master, and a Man after my own heart.
Steve, USA
Hi Vadim, Your work is incredible and I appreciate your work on my knives. Thanks for everything and look forward to more in future.
Frank, Australia
Thanks to the FVB and the software, I was able to make a big step forward in terms of knife sharpness.
The sharpness was between 70 and 90 BESS, so now, this is thanks to the correct lapping, between 30 to 50 BESS! What a success! Thank you Vadim, and greetings to Australia.
Dietmar, KNIFE-SPA Austria
Well SIR (capitals intended), you're second to none, to the best of my knowledge. I must admit - no joke - that I'm afraid of hand washing my own knives (and dishwasher is not an option, no, no) after sharpening them according to what you teach.
Eric, Belgium
Axel, Germany
Dear Vadim, Your ideas changed my way of knife grinding. Now I mostly use CBN wheels and the "3-leather-wheel" procedure and the Kangaroo tail strop. I am very happy with the results.
Dr. Werner, Germany
Vadim, you are a true gentleman. The data you've shared with all of us will make a huge difference to my family and me. It will enable me to not make the enormous number of potential mistakes I may have otherwise - let alone the months of testing I wouldn't have been able to carry out myself in an industrial setting. I'm more than a bit of a perfectionist and a bright man from a family of PhDs who knows how valuable it is to find a man like you as a guide. Your sincere admirer from up above, Clay
Clay, USA
Holy Shit!! I have everything working and blown away with the results. It's shocking actually. Thanks for all of your continued help man, I truely appreciate it.
Shawn, USA
First off, big fan of your work, I enjoyed reading your deburring book and the experiments you have done with edge Stability, hardness, etc. I have great respect and admiration for your work Vadim, thanks for sharing such wonderful details to all.
Shawn - Big Brown Bear knife maker and YouTuber, USA
It is always a pleasure to watch your videos, see your sure technique, and to see your mind working in your book. Thank you again, Vadim, for sharing your deep knowledge.
Clay, USA
I'm amazed how nice Wusthoff etc knives come using your techniques. And how necessary your techniques are. Otherwise the edge is garbage after sharpening. You can fake it with higher hardness steels, but the soft ones absolutely demand your approach.
Alan, USA
I received the book today and have just finished reading it cover to cover. There is a lot of information to take in so will need to read it a couple more times before the contents are hard-wired into my grey matter. All I can say at this point is this is a recipe book to sharpening nirvana! Thanks Vadim for sharing your research, knowledge and experience so willingly.
Andrew, Tormek forum
I too just received Vadim's book, and after reading it cover to cover twice, I shall be making the information and concepts contained within its pages the foundation of my sharpening set-up and process.
I'm sure there are plenty of freehand sharpeners working with flat water stones who get a nice (perhaps even excellent) edge... but I've long suspected that only highly refined guided sharpening will give one the guaranteed accuracy, absolute repeatability, and a clear understanding of exactly what you'll wind up with upon completion of the sharpening of any given blade... and all of this before you even start sharpening.
I find Vadim's book, along with his software (and the Tormek of course) to give me the kind of rock solid foundation (which my OCD likes ;) ) with which to proceed.
Roger, Tormek forum
What I like is that by following the steps outlined in the book you are able to produce an exceptionally sharp and lasting edge with a stock Tormek. It may take a little longer but it can be done.
John, Tormek forum
I just spent some time this weekend following the steps in Vadim's book on my EDC Leatherman using my stock Tormek, it gets sharp but has never held its edge as I think it should. After following the steps there is no question it is sharper than I've ever had it. Time will tell if I did things right as far as edge retention.
I too appreciate Vadim shared knowledge!
Curt, Tormek forum
One of the things I admire about Vadim is that he shares not only his knowledge, he also shows his research methods. He combines the discipline of a scholarly researcher with the practicality of a sharpener who lives in the real world.
Ken, Tormek forum
Thank you very much for all of these great videos. I'm always on the look out for the most knowledgeable teachers I can find, and so far, you are miles beyond what I see other's teaching. Thank you for taking the time to make such in-depth, detailed & professional tutorials.
Isabella, USA
I bought your software a week ago, and I have to say it’s like I’ve got an entirely new machine, it really brought it up to another level. Absolutely worth the cost.
MH
Your app is gold!!! It takes the guesswork out of everything. That plastic guide that comes with the machine is junk in my opinion, I was about to send my T8 back to Tormek. Thanks, really.
Steven, USA
What I admire about Vadim in addition to the competence demonstrated with facts is the great availability of communication and the sharing of its methods with the whole community. More unique than rare merit in a world full of self-centered individualists. Infinitely grateful.
Venanzio, Italy
Got the knife, WOW, I am extremely happy and amazed with the edge. I am extremely impressed with your service both in terms of the sharpening and customer service.
Leigh, Australia
I picked the knives today. Absolutely excellent, but of course you know that quite objectively thanks to your work. You don't need me to tell you. Much appreciated, as is the copy of your book. I shall look forwards to giving it a proper going over. It isn't that common to have genuinely earned wisdom dispensed with such generosity.
Andrew, Australia
Thank you for being an inspiration, Vadim. Your scientific approach to the craft has pushed me to think more about what I'm doing to the steel over what I should be doing according to traditional practice. I've never been so engaged in my work.
Chris, USA
I have sharpened about 40 knives using your updated app and introducing the new parameter "Thickness behind the edge". After sharpening I have tested all the knives with the Catra Laser Protractor and ALL the knives finished in target angle. (Knives between 0,5 to 2,1mm thicknes behind the blade.)
My mathematic knowledge are in medium level, but the experience are talking to me that the app works correctly.
Josu, Spain
My wife required several bandages when she started to use my newly sharpened knives.
My son and one of my friends had to go to the emergency room for stitches.
I sharpened a Buck folding knife for another friend. It took a particularly fine edge (for me), about BESS 80. When I gave it to him, despite my warning, he tested the edge with his thumb and had to go to the E.R.
Who says sharpening cannot be fun.
Thank you again for all the information.
Cordially, David. USA
Thank you, Vadim I've learned more from your website about knife sharpening than every other source of info I've researched for over 20 years combined. I have your book on knife deburring and will have the PT-50 Professional by next week. I am an Environmental Scientist/Consultant and your website is a generous source of information exceeding any other I utilize in my profession. You should be proud. I'm just an amateur that has an obsession with sharp knives and still a novice. I thank you again for advancing my knowledge on knife sharpening.
Victor, USA
I have learned so much from you, your book, and your videos. I joined the Tormek forum and am reading your past posts. I have huge respect for the rare individuals who seek excellence in their work. Kangaroo strop arrived today. Love it. I am an engineer not a professional knife sharpener. However, knives are a hobby. I took one Buck knife today down from 97 BESS to 57 BESS only by stropping 12 times on the roo strop. Awesome!
Wiley, USA
Hello Vadim, I just watched your new video "Common Tormek Mistakes In Knife Sharpening." Another excellent video!! I have learned so much from you. I have watched your sharpening videos many times and read your posts on the Tormek forum. With your book, videos, wheels and kangaroo strop that I purchased, I have become an elite sharpener.
Over 125 BESS in now dull for me. Although it is only a hobby for me, my children and friends want me to sharpen their knifes. If I am in a hurry, with your App, the standard Tormek stone wheel, and the kangaroo strop, I can usually get almost any knife under 130 BESS in only a few minutes. It easily shaves and my friends are impressed. If not in a hurry, I get around 60 BESS and sometimes less. My best was either 16 or 23.
Once more thank you for sharing your time and knowledge. In your field, you are the best.
Wiley, USA
You are a true gem to the comunity, your customer, YouTube wathchers and probably more!
Jon-Anders, Norway
Many thanks for all your research and video teaching. I am a hooked convert and have replicated your sharpening system in fine detail. It is going to bring me many years of retirement pleasure!
Ian, Australia
Thanks for your great work.
I have watched all of you videos and tried to replicate your methods.
I have downloaded your software app and have had remarkable results.
Most of my knives are getting quite old (Over 20 years for most) and have been hand sharpened over that time and your software helped me restore the edges to new standard.
Thanks Knife Grinders Team.
Paul, Australia
The thing about Vadim's technique is that he backs everything he says or demonstrates up with a BESS sharpness test.
What isn't backed up with a BESS test is demonstrated photographically in his book (which every sharpener should own, read, and clearly understand).
Vadim's comments are never "off the cuff", and IMO, sharpeners who want consistency and ultimate sharpness will do well to adopt Vadim's techniques.
Faint praise is no praise at all ... so I'd be extremely wary of "older" sharpening techniques being promoted as the equal of modern highly technical sharpening techniques, especially when those "modern" techniques are repeatedly backed up by hard data.
...Muscle memory is a wonderful thing, but it is, by its very nature, a random and non-repeatable process - even for masters of the craft.
Trigonometry on the other hand, is hard data, repeatable thousands of times over with no variation in the results.
The two are so fundamentally different that comparisons are impossible, and attempting to compare one to the other (which I didn't do, rather I simply responded to the comparison being initially offered) is like comparing chalk and cheese.
I'll take the Trig, consistency, and ultimate sharpness over what is ultimately a guessing game as a way to get what I'm looking for.
This statement is the very foundation of the Tormek system and process, as the Tormek is the polar opposite of freehand sharpening ... and Vadim has taken the Tormek and quantified it even further in order to maximize the consistency and outcome of using the Tormek system.
Roger, Canada
Just a note to thank you. I was about ready to sell my Tormek, then i came across your videos, bought the software, made a measuring device out of wood following your example (easy) and now the whole darn thing makes sense.
Mike, USA
Since I recieved my T-4 I hardly used it because the result was so bad and as a beginner that is not good for the confidence.
So your App together with your videos, the one with mistakes to avoid I have watched quite a few times, makes it a true pleasure to sharpen now and without fear that more knives will end up in shapes they were not meant to.
So a big thank you and all the best!
Björn, Belgium
I would like to pass on to you my special regards in relation to your website, videos, products and book. I am a retired Physicist, and I like to understand things at a deep level, and I found your book and thoughts regarding "Burrs" to be very clear, and helpful. I think your results prove your approach too. I think you have made a very good contribution to the community, and provided good information in an area where there is a lot of "black magic", or should I say rubbish.
I too have wasted a lot of time and money on "sharpening", with only moderate results. Reading your book etc prompted me to buy a Tormek T-8, and what a quantum leap that is in terms of sharpening. I now have quite sharp tools all over my workshop, from chisels to drills to scrapers and spokeshaves.
I have various grinders, and I really like the control I can get with the Tormek. So thank you for that.
One thing I felt using the Tormek is that it is not very satisfactory to have to hand hone an edge on work you have spent a good amount of time on, and so your FVB jig is great, and I look forward to even better results in the future.
I also feel that setting up the grinding angle on the WM-200 is less than satisfactory for many items, so your calculators are a great idea.
Jesse, Australia
Hi Vadim...
It's Claus from Denmark. I'm at 53 BESS in average on my knives at the moment. Thanks for all your support! I really appreciate. Please take care (we need you).
Claus, Denmark
Vadim, thank you and your Youtube videos are very informational, I have watched all numerous times and it has improved my sharpening skills and my customers are very happy with their knives.
Jeff, USA
Dear Vadim, I am writing to you to thank you for your professionalism with regard to all the items I have purchased off you. Thank you for all your continued pioneering work in this field. You are a leader in this field. I value all the videos you post on Youtube, and knowledge you share.

Hi Vadim, I said it last night and I'll say it again you are a bloody legend. Thanks so much for all your help and your YouTube content. It was a big part for me to get into sharpening.
James, Australia
I would like to thank you for sharing your knowledge, sharing solutions and developing new equipment that Tormek users benefit from. It is very interesting and instructive.

You guys are freaking wizards! Keep it up!

I have purchased your book, software and FVB. Your training and products have taken my sharpening skills to a whole new level. In fact, my skills have improved so much, I am starting a side business.
Thank you for all of your research and products. I do not believe that I would be this proficient without your work.

Hello again Vadim. I just want to thank you.
Today I tried the new way of honing. I nearly can't believe that I have ever done it differently. The way to be accurate fits me very well, and it is just not possible with the standard tormek. Thanks for the great product!

Hello Vadim
I recently found your YouTube videos and website, and my knife sharpening has improved 1000% in a week.
I have tried many different sharpening jigs and methods over the years with no success.
I have had a Tormek T7 for some years for sharpening my wood work tools.
I have tried using the knife jig a few times with no success at all, until I found you and your system. I meant every word I said about your techniques. I have NEVER been able to get knives sharp like I have this past week. I have even got a couple knives to slice cigarette papers reasonably well... Again, thank you for the world of information you have made available, it has been a game changer for me.
Adam, Australia
Thanks for the expertise you provide. I've been waiting my whole life for this kind of precision.

This may come across a bit cheesy, but I wanted to thank you.
Not just for the great products but more importantly for your book and all the information you so generously put up for free on youtube. I have been sharpening for many years but only just started doing it as business about 4 weeks ago. It is one of the few things Im still able to do after being diagnosed with a degenerative spinal disease and I cant tell you the amount of positive feedback I have been getting using your techniques. Your book has been my bible and I certainly couldnt get an edge of this quality without your help. I tell absolutely everyone I can about your book and youtube videos. Eternally grateful.
If your ever in Perth I would love to buy your a beer
Cheers mate,
Steve

I just wanted to say thank you for all your hard won research that you make so readily available and easy to digest. Every knife in our house is razor sharp, and some are even sharper... It's been a joy to learn your techniques to get a lasting, sharp edge, and I'm sure my customers are happy too. Hair splitting!!! Very exciting.

Thank you so much Sir,
I just want to say one thing, men like you are rare in this world today. You share very important information and advice. You have removed the mystery about knife sharpening and taken it to a new level. This hard earned knowledge you have gained has taken you years and you do all this freely.
Frank, Denmark
Incidentally, I have just recently discovered your site and enjoy it tremendously.
I have learned so much from your excellent, describing in all details and easy to understand videos. Best videos I’ve seen so far on this subject. You not only describe how to do certain procedures, you also explain why you shouldn’t do it a different way. You are a superb teacher. Thankyou!
Grant
Great work Vadim. You are unquestionably the best in the business!

Once again you are the pinnacle of blades. You always think outside the box in every aspect and are always improving. If there was a purple heart award for knives your chest would be full. Thanks Vadim, so much respect.

Your information, videos and instructions have helped me become the top quality knife sharpener
in all of N.E. Texas. People drive from long distances to have me sharpen their knives.
I rarely advertise any more, all of that business is word-of-mouth from customer to customer.
Thank You !
James, USA
I appreciate knowledge that has been derived from rational thought and the scientific method. You're doing real, good, measurable work, and you're sharing your results. One cannot put a price on that sort of mentality.
So, thank you, for being a source of knowledge, and products I already know I can rely upon.
