HRC Rockwell Hardness Scale is non-linear. What does it mean?
If you take 2 pairs of knives:
50 and 55 HRC, and 60 and 65 HRC -
the knife of 65 compared to 60 is way harder than the knife of 55 compared to 50.
This non-linearity makes comparison by HRC numbers not intuitive at all.
Continuing with our example, the knife of 65 HRC is by 71% harder than that of 50 HRC,
while a knife of 60 HRC is only by 44% harder than that of 50 HRC.
This web applet takes into account non-linearity of the HRC scale and presents difference in hardness in %.
